• Large/jumbo box braids (shoulder length): 2–3 hours
• Medium box braids (mid-back): 3–5 hours
• Small/micro braids: 5–8+ hours
• Knotless braids (medium, waist-length): 4–6 hours
• Cornrows (simple): 1–2 hours
• Cornrows with extensions (feed-in): 2–3 hours
• Faux locs (full head): 4–7 hours
• Senegalese twists (medium): 3–5 hours

What affects the timing

These are estimates. The actual time depends on the thickness and length of your natural hair, how quickly it detangles and sections, the number of braids, the length of the extensions, and the stylist's pace. Small braids always take longer than the person booking them expects.

How to prepare for a long appointment

Eat a proper meal before you arrive. Bring water, snacks, and entertainment — headphones, a book, a podcast, a downloaded series. Wear comfortable clothing and a top that doesn't need to go over your head when you leave.

Let someone know where you are and approximately when you'll be done, especially if you're booked in for a longer style. Don't book anything important immediately after.
