How to choose the right braid length for your face shape
How to choose the right braid length for your face shape

Braid length is a personal choice, but certain lengths tend to complement certain face shapes more than others. Here's a simple guide to help you decide before your appointment.

Oval face

You have the most flexibility. Most lengths work well on an oval face shape — from chin-length to waist-length braids. If you want a guideline, mid-back length braids tend to be particularly flattering because they elongate the look without overwhelming the face.

Round face

Longer lengths — below the shoulder — help elongate a round face. Avoid chin-length braids that stop exactly at the widest point of the face, as they can emphasise width rather than length. High-parting styles or centre parts also help create vertical lines that lengthen the face visually.

Square or angular face

Softer lengths that hit below the collarbone are flattering. Middle parts work well. Very structured, geometric parting patterns can emphasise the angular jaw, so a more organic parting style is worth considering.

Heart or inverted triangle face

Medium to long lengths balance a wider forehead and narrower chin. Side-swept styles can soften the width at the top. Avoid very bulky or voluminous styles at the crown that add width where you don't need it.

Long or narrow face

Medium lengths — shoulder to mid-back — work best. Very long braids can make a long face appear longer. A side part rather than a centre part adds some width.

The honest addendum

Face shape guidelines are starting points, not rules. Style is personal. Bring reference photos of what you like and we'll work with your features and your hair texture to get you something you love.
